MICHAEL J MURSCHEL, SD and FOUNDER

Redesigning the Intersection of Faith and Death

I am a commissioned spiritual director, liturgical designer, and theologian, with an MA in Pastoral Care and Theology. For the past 25 years, I have focused my ministry and private practice on the design and delivery of funeral services. The reality is that there is really no in-depth and dedicated avenue of study providing the detailed what, how, and why of the faith-centered and spiritually responsible funeral service cycle. And that realization motivated me to establish The Funeral and Faith Forum as a thought center for spiritual formation, liturgy, and society at the intersection of faith and death. The Funeral and Faith Forum brings together Spiritual Directors who seek spiritual formation and applied education to engage and extend their ministry on a compassionately vital level, by providing for them a committed community of collegial discourse within a studio classroom structure, with certificate programs of study for formation in the spirituality of death, instruction in funeral ritual and liturgy, and mentoring in order to become funeral designers and funeral conductors who are faith-focused, theologically astute, dogmatically responsible, culturally intuitive, and adaptively agile in the sacred funerary arts and liturgies so that they can provide highly personalized and spiritually healing funeral services for their directees and others entrusted to their care. To that end, we provide discussion, research, education, advocacy, and mentoring of all sectors of funeral culture. Our courses provide the professional standing you need to go forward in this dynamic ministry, and we provide certificates of study and certificates of achievement for the successful completion of those sequences in acknowledgement of your professional role as funeral designers, funeral conductors, and presiders in faith-centered funeral practice.
